About the Birmingham 11 plus
What is the 11 plus?
The 11 plus is an entrance exam used by state-funded grammar schools. It's taken in September of Year 6. It is used to assess:
Your child's progress and potential in core subjects
Whether your child is likely to thrive at grammar school
To go to a grammar school in Birmingham, your child will need to take the 11 plus. There is one entry test shared by all of Birmingham's 8 grammar schools.
How to apply for 11 plus exams in Birmingham
Registrations for the Birmingham 11 plus are open online from May to June.
Registrations are now closed for entering Year 7 in 2023.
Registrations for entering Year 7 in 2024 will open in May 2023.
When do 11 plus results come out in Birmingham?
Key dates for the Birmingham 11 plus (this takes place while your child is in Year 6):
9th September 2022: You will be sent information about test day in the post
17th September 2022: Your child sits the 11 plus test
21st October 2022: 11 plus results are sent to you
31st October 2022: Deadline for applying for school places (advised to wait for the 11 plus results before applying)
1st March 2023: You will find out which school has offered your child a place
What is the pass mark for the 11 plus in Birmingham?
The pass mark may vary year on year.
For the past two years, the intake qualifying score has been 205.
Most Birmingham grammar schools prioritise places for children who score 224 or above.
