Children already in attendance at primary schools in Buckinghamshire are automatically registered. Applications for school places are made through the Buckinghamshire Council website.
Pupils at schools outside of Buckinghamshire can register between 6th May 2022 and 24th June 2022. Applicants must also notify their home local authority of their preference for the school.
In 2021, results were released on the 15th of October and the deadline for school applications was 31st October. The national offer day is set for the 1st March 2022.
As an academically selective grammar school and Academy, the Royal Latin School uses a transfer examination. This is Buckinghamshire Council’s Secondary Transfer Test, which is set by GL Assessments.
The overall qualifying score is 121. If the school is oversubscribed with applicants who have attained a score of 121, the following criteria is used:
Looked after and previously looked after children
Children who qualify for Free School Meals
Children who qualify for the Pupil Premium grant
Siblings of enrolled pupils
Children of Insignis Academy Trust staff
Children living in the Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School catchment area (centred on the town of Aylesbury and the locality)
Remaining places offered in distance order
Applicants sit two multiple-choice papers on the same day:
Paper 1 (60 minutes, including 20 minutes for introduction and examples): comprehension, technical English and verbal reasoning.
Paper 2 (60 minutes, including 20 minutes for introduction and examples): non-verbal reasoning, spatial reasoning and mathematics.
The overall qualifying score is 121. Results are age standardised so that applicants born later in the school year are not disadvantaged.
To prepare effectively for the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test, we recommend beginning preparations at least a year in advance. Applicants will need to spend ample time preparing for English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
We advise taking a look at the familiarisation booklet for the Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools and the familiarisation materials for the GL Assessment. These resources can help your child understand the content of the exam and provide opportunities for your child to get comfortable with the format ahead of the big day.
