Biology

By the end of the Key Stage 2 science curriculum, pupils are expected to be able to describe the life cycles and reproductive processes in humans, specific plants and animals, describe how things are classified, understand the key functions of bodies and begin to understand evolution and adaptation.

At Atom Learning, our learning journey - which includes engaging science resources, customised practices and worksheets - takes pupils through the teachings of life cycles, evolution and the food chain, the parts of plants and what they need to grow, the components of the human body (such as organs, skeletons, muscles, digestion and the circulatory system) and how to keep healthy.

Chemistry

Key Stage 2 provides pupils with a foundation knowledge in properties and changes of materials, such as grouping materials based on their properties and understanding solids, liquids and gases.

Our interactive software helps pupils get to grips with the core concepts of the Key Stage 2 chemistry curriculum through adaptive lessons, engaging resources and worksheets and suggested practices in dissolving and solutions, changing state, rocks, soils and fossils and irreversible changes.

Physics

The national curriculum expects pupils to have a foundational understanding of earth and space (and how forces work) by the end of Key Stage 2, as well as understanding the science of light and building a foundational knowledge of electricity.

We take pupils through the Key Stage 2 physics curriculum with lessons, resources, practices and worksheets that cover topics including the solar system and universe, electricity circuits and voltage, forces and magnets, light and shadows, and the science of sound.

Working scientifically

The Key Stage 2 science curriculum requires pupils to ‘work scientifically’ throughout the programme of study. By the end of Year 6, pupils should be able to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

We help prepare pupils for Key Stage 3 science with adaptive lessons and highly visual science worksheets that teach data interpretation, data recording, how to understand variables, fair tests and questions, and how to safely measure and observe experiments.
