Comprehension
The Key Stage 2 English national curriculum requires that pupils’ knowledge of language (gained from stories, plays, poetry, non-fiction and textbooks) will support their increasing fluency as readers, their facility as writers, and their comprehension.
Atom’s comprehension content for Key Stage 2 teaches children how to analyse and interpret text through the genres of drama, fiction, non-fiction, poetry and persuasive writing through exciting lessons, personalised English practices, learning resources and English worksheets.
Spelling, grammar and punctuation
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils should be able to write down their ideas quickly with broadly accurate grammar and punctuation. They should be able to spell words they have not yet been taught by using what they have learnt about how English spelling works to make intelligent suggestions.
Atom Learning helps children in Years 3-6 get to grips with the English curriculum’s key topics of syntax, verb agreement and parts of speech. Vocabulary
Upon completing the Key Stage 2 English curriculum, pupils should be able to select appropriate vocabulary to support their writing and be able to talk about vocabulary they have not learnt before. Additionally, pupils should understand nuances in vocabulary choice and age-appropriate, academic vocabulary.
