Bourne Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school with Academy status. A grammar school has existed in Bourne since the 14th century and the current school was founded in 1636, moving to its present-day location in 1921.
The school has grown quickly in the last 10 years and this increase in student numbers has been matched by the site’s development. In recent years, a number of spectacular, well-appointed buildings have opened, including a new £4 million science block with 15 state-of-the-art laboratories for teaching biology, chemistry and physics.
Bourne Grammar School is rated as one of the top 16 secondary schools in Lincolnshire, according to Ofsted.

However, meeting this minimum requirement does not automatically result in admission. Should the number of students who meet the selection criteria exceed 240, places will be allocated in accordance with the School’s Admissions Policy.
Bourne Grammar School does not have a defined catchment area as this varies from year to year based on the cohort size, proportion of siblings and other factors that cannot be predicted in advance.
To apply for your child to sit the 11 plus exam at Bourne Grammar School, you should apply before 31st July 2022. You will also need to apply for a school place on the Lincolnshire County Council website before 31st October.
The 11 plus exam will be taken over two separate dates at Bourne Grammar School:
Saturday 17th September: Verbal reasoning paper. This is multiple-choice and consists of 80 questions, with 50 minutes of time provided.
Saturday 24th September: Non-verbal and spatial reasoning paper. This is multiple-choice and consists of 5 sections, each with 14 questions.
Students must think outside the box, look for codes and patterns, and utilise their knowledge of symmetry, rotation, word building, and vocabulary in order to pass the exam. These exams focus on the application of cognitive skills.
