How to apply to a private school

If you’re considering a private school in Surrey, you’ll need to register with each school you’re applying to. Most senior schools close registration in the autumn term of Year 6 for both 11+ and 13+ entry. When you submit the form, you’ll usually pay a registration fee of around £100–£200.
Many of Surrey’s top private schools are selective, so your child will need to take an entrance exam. The format varies by school. Some of the most well-used exam boards include:
Some schools also set their own exams. These often cover English (such as reading comprehension and/or creative writing) and maths.
