Contents

Founded in 1952 in Slough, Herschel Grammar School is a mixed grammar school for Years 7 to 13. It has consistently been awarded ‘outstanding’ Ofsted ratings, citing “pupils’ behaviour and attitude to learning” as real strengths. The school aims to improve social and emotional skills and wellbeing alongside students’ exam performance, to prepare them to make valuable contributions within their communities.

Other schools within the Slough Consortium include Langley Grammar School, St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School.

Using information from the most recently published test information, here is an insight into the number of pupils who applied to each of the four schools in the Slough Consortium, and their success rate:

Herschel Grammar School catchment area

Priority Admission Areas determine admissions choices if the school is oversubscribed, which is likely. Pupils living within the school catchment area, which is defined as a home address within 4 miles of the school, are more likely to be admitted, with those closer to the school receiving higher priority.

Up to a further 10 places will be offered to eligible applicants with a home address within 10 miles of the school, with any remaining places being allocated by the student’s rank in exam performance.

What is the Herschel Grammar School 11 plus exam format?

The Slough Consortium formally used CEM (Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring) as its 11 plus provider until 2022. However, CEM has given notice that it will no longer be offering paper-based tests for entry to grammar schools. Alternative arrangements are now being put in place by the Slough Consortium for entry to a Slough grammar school in 2024.

Further information will be made available here when these arrangements are confirmed.
