Urmston Grammar School 11 plus admissions process

Urmston Grammar School is a member of the Trafford Grammar Schools CEM Consortium (TGSCC). Children will need to be registered with Urmston Grammar School before noon on 24th June 2022. The application form will be available to download from Urmston Grammar School's website from 9th May 2022.

Parents must also include Urmston Grammar School in the ranked order of preference on their Local Authority's Common Application Form (CAF), which must be submitted by 31st October 2022.

All children taking the 11 plus exam who achieve a qualifying score of 334 or above will be eligible for a Year 7 place at Urmston Grammar School in 2023. This score is age-standardised to ensure that all candidates, regardless of their age at the time of the exam, are fairly assessed.

If the number of children who achieve the qualifying score exceeds the 150 places available, Urmston Grammar School will apply the following oversubscription criteria:

  • Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children

  • 20 places will be reserved for the 20 top-scoring candidates, irrespective of their home address

  • 10 places will then be allocated for pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium

  • Children who have parents who have been permanently employed by Urmston Grammar School for at least eight continuous years

  • Candidates who live closest to Urmston Grammar School, firstly by M41 and M31 postcodes, followed by remaining candidates.

The Urmston Grammar School 11 plus exam format

Applicants taking the 11 plus exam at Urmston Grammar School will take two one-hour tests in the same format as the CEM 11 plus exam.

The exam will test non-verbal, verbal and mathematical skills and consists of a mixture of standard and multiple-choice questions.
