Alcester Grammar School is a mixed grammar school in Warwickshire with an attached sixth form centre. Founded over 400 years ago, the school was originally named ‘Newport’s Free School’ after its benefactor but changed its name in 1912.

What is the catchment area for Alcester Grammar School?

Alcester Grammar’s priority, or catchment, area is anywhere within a radius of 16.885 miles drawn from the Fountain in Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon to the County boundary south of Long Compton. Warwickshire Admissions will require proof of address prior to submission for the 11 plus.

Warwickshire County Council's Admissions Service (Warwickshire Admissions) coordinates Alcester Grammar School’s Year 7 admissions policy on the school’s behalf. Whether a student is admitted to Alcester Grammar depends on their performance in the 11 plus, and is subject to the catchment area outlined above.

To apply for Year 7 admission, you will need to register for the 11 plus test by the 30th June deadline and name Alcester Grammar on the relevant Common Application Form to your Local Authority. Late applications will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Both Warwickshire and Birmingham Consortium of Grammar Schools operate the same 11 plus test. You can request that your child's results are shared with the Birmingham Consortium if you are considering applying to those schools also.

The Alcester Grammar School 11 plus exam format

The Warwickshire 11 plus test is made up of two papers, the first comprising maths and non-verbal reasoning, and the second paper testing reading comprehension and verbal reasoning.

Each section is likely to be multiple choice format, with a separate answer sheet to the question booklet. The question booklet is not marked, and any working out completed in this booklet will not be considered.

Applicants will be given a question booklet with the test questions along with a separate answer sheet, which are marked electronically. While past papers are not published, you can find familiarisation booklet resources on the school’s website.
