Should there ever be more applicants than available spaces, priority is given to:
Looked after children and those that have been looked after previously
Students who are currently eligible for free school meals at the time of the application deadline
Children who are within the catchment area of the school
Those with siblings currently enrolled at the school
Students with exceptional medical or social needs that can only be met by the school
Burnham Grammar School also has a waiting list which is ranked according to the above criteria. Take a look at the Burnham Grammar School admissions policy for more details.
Each applicant's score will be based on an age-standardised scoring system to ensure all candidates have a fair chance. The total of the age-standardised scores produces an overall Secondary Transfer Score (STTS). Students must score at least 121 on the STTS to be admitted to the school.
The oversubscription criteria ranking (above) will be followed if the number of candidates obtaining the STTS exceeds the number of places available.
Burnham Grammar School follows a catchment area system. Priority is for those who live closest to the school.
Primary school pupils in Buckinghamshire are automatically registered and they will take a Preparation Test before sitting the Secondary Transfer Test in September. Buckinghamshire Council can accept applications if your child does not attend a Buckinghamshire primary school or attend an independent school. Applications must be submitted by 23rd June 2022.
The GL exam board administers the 11 plus test at Burnham Grammar School. In the autumn, candidates will take two tests on the same day. Each paper is approximately 60 minutes long. The test will assess verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths skills.
